DESA Drilling: A Family Business Driving the Future of Directional Drilling

A New Generation Leading DESA Drilling

DESA Drilling & Equipment is a proudly family-owned business with a long-standing reputation for delivering quality drilling solutions to South Africa’s mining industry. Last year, a new generation took over the family business, bringing fresh ideas while continuing the legacy built over decades.

According to one of DESA Drilling & Equipment’s Managing Directors, De Wet Botha, the company has experienced significant growth through the introduction of new technologies, improved equipment designs, and the development of a new survey bullet.

More Than 25 Years of Industry Experience

With around 25 years of experience in underground coal mining and directional drilling, one of DESA Drilling & Equipment’s Managing Directors, Johan Fourie, has helped position DESA as a trusted name in the industry.

DESA designs and manufactures drilling equipment to meet each mine’s specific requirements while also providing professional drilling services. This allows the company to offer a complete solution from manufacturing to on-site operations.

Leaders in Directional Drilling

DESA Drilling is recognised as one of South Africa’s leaders in directional drilling. Many of the directional drilling rigs operating in the country’s underground coal mines were manufactured by DESA, with some still performing reliably after more than 20 years.

The company also develops the training manuals and technical documentation for its equipment, ensuring customers receive expert support from the people who know the machines best.

By combining decades of experience with continuous innovation, DESA Drilling & Equipment remains committed to delivering reliable drilling solutions that support the future of South Africa’s mining industry.
